A romantic musical, mostly told through Beatles’ songs, is about a young guy in Liverpool who travels to the United States during the Vietnam War to meet his father for the first time. He arrives in Greenwich Village and falls in love with an American girl. Together, they experience the swift changes in the U.S. of the 1960’s.The leading actors, Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood, did a great job with their combination of acting, dancing and singing. In order to do all three in one movie takes a lot of practice and work.I like how the director gives us a glimpse of Jude and Lucy’s lives before they meet each other in America. It gives us the background information of their upbringing and the reason why Jude is traveling to the U.S.Across The Universe is lavished with various art forms, from paintings to poetry. This is a good movie but you must have an artistic frame of mind to really appreciate its various artistic aspects.

I’ll have to check it out… It’s one of the next three movies to come from my Netflix queue. Ever since Moulin Rouge however, I’ve been interested in the resurgence of musicals. Across the Universe looks more colorful and in that vein than some of the others like Hairspray and Once.
