Alvin & The ChipmunksRating: Kernel

Alvin, Simon, and Theodore make it to the big screen in this kids/family movie. Alvin And The Chipmunks tells the story of how they meet and are adopted by Dave, a man unsuccessful at making it into the music industry.

It is a funny and entertaining movie for young kids but for adults, it’s a mediocre movie. Jason Lee, who plays the role of Dave, could improve significantly. I remember watching the Alvin And The Chipmunks cartoons when I was young and find that when Dave yells out in the movie “Alvin!”, it’s just not loud enough and with enough emotion to it. Generally speaking, the acting is not impressive at all.

Alvin And The Chipmunks, which was released around Christmas time, has generated over $210 million at the box office. This revenue is mostly generated from children during the Christmas break. If the movie would have been released at another time of the year, other than holidays, it would not have generated this much money.

If you’re a parent, it’s worth buying Alvin And The Chipmunks as the children will love it, but if you’re not a parent or your children are much older, it’s best to rent it. For parents of young children, please beware that there are a few instances of mild rude humor.
