Thomas Jane, most known for his role as The Punisher, and Marcia Gay Harden star in this thriller based on Stephen King’s novella, The Mist. Following a severe storm, a mist sweeps into a community in Maine. The residents quickly discover within the mist the bloodthirsty critters who are lurking for human blood. Rumors are spreading that “The Arrowhead Project”, a research project conducted by a secret military base, is the cause of this horrifying event. As many of the residents are gathered at the local grocery store, they must try to survive and find a solution to get rid of these creatures, but before they do so, they must overcome their own personal obstacles and unite together.
I’m personally not a fan of horror movies but this is one I really enjoyed. The Mist is filmed in a way that highlights the emotions and reactions of the various characters. The camera focuses on the faces of the residents as the horrifying events occur. I noticed the camera fading in and out between scenes as the time is changing. I found that this made the movie feel like it was a television show with commercial breaks, such as Lost or The Office.
In The Mist, Marcia Gay Harden plays the role of Mrs. Carmody, a religious fanatic who warns the others of the apocalyptic events of the book of Revelations. At first, nobody wants to listen to her but as things progress, she begins to convert some of the survivors to become disciples of her ideology. Harden does a great job with her role as it is comparable with Paul Dano’s role as Eli Sunday, a charismatic cultish preacher, in There Will Be Blood.
If you’re looking for horror thriller, The Mist is surely one you want to see as it is one of the best horror films of 2007 that will leave an impression on you.

I am a big fan of horror movies and I enjoyed it too. Not because of the horror, but of the excellent display of humanity’s strengths and weaknesses. Wow, and it was so dark. Probably the darkest movie I’ve seen in quite a while.
