Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) is a single 37-year-old business woman who is determined to have a kid, but her chances of getting pregnant are only 1-in-1 million. Determined to succeed, Kate lets Angie Ostrowiski become her surrogate. When Angie (Amy Poehler) comes knocking on her door with no place to live, Kate must take her in and make her feel like the perfect expectant mom. As they struggle to agree with the various preparations for the baby, they discover two types of families: the ones your born in and the ones you create.

Baby Mama does not only contain NBC’s Saturday Night Live’s powerful comedy duo, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but also stars a handful of past and current comedians from the late-night show, including Steve Martin, Will Forte, and Fred Armisen. The film also features Sigourney Weaver, Dax Shepard, Greg Kinnear, and John Hodgman, who plays PC in the latest Mac computer commercials.

The following are a few notes about the cast and their characters:

  • Kate (Tina Fey) is a serious businesswoman who cracks a few jokes here and there.
  • Amy Poehler’s obnoxious character, Angie, who is portrayed as a “white trash” girl, seems to not have any sort of manners.
  • When I heard that the manager of the surrogate agency, Chaffee Bicknell (Sigourney Weaver), was pregnant, the first thought that came to mind was, “Is it an alien?”.
  • Barry (Steve Martin), Kate’s boss, looks like George Washington or someone from the 18th century with his hairstyle, but he’s actually a new age fanatic who likes to pass on his “energy” to others by locking heads for five minutes.
  • I’m not a big fan of Greg Kinnear in Baby Mama as it’s the second time I see him starring as a coffee shop owner who tries to pick up his clients. The other movie I’m talking about is Feast Of Love, which stars Morgan Freeman.

Baby Mama is one of the funniest chick flicks in the past year. Saying this, if you’re looking for a comical chick flick, Baby Mama should definitely be on your top 10 list of recent comedies to see.

  1. Welcome to the LAMB! (My blog is LAMB #33.)

I’m always looking for a good chick flick, especially if Tina Fey is in it. My favorite of hers was Mean Girls, which was spot-on. I’m looking forward to seeing Baby Mama to see if it’s as funny as MG. If so, it’ll definitely be added to my permanent collection. Thanks for the great review.
