Nineteen years later, Indiana Jones finds himself on a mission to find and return the crystal skull, an ancient artifact, to its right place. On his way he meets Mutt Williams and his first lover, Marion Ravenwood. As they race against the Soviets to find the crystal skull, they uncover some deep secrets from their past.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull brings Harrison Ford and Karen Allen back into action in this epic action-adventure film. The star-studded cast, including newcomers Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf and Ray Winstone, gives a stellar performance!
The timing of the release and the timing in the film are perfect! Nineteen years elapse between the release of the third and fourth film but also the between the time in the movie. The Last Crusade, released in 1989, is set in 1938 while The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, released in 2008, is set in 1957.
Many parts of the movie stay true to the series, such as the map we see as Indiana is traveling by plane. What I notice is that the stunts from the first three films are all done by stuntmen and live action set special effects while The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull uses too much CGI and computer special effects.
I find Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the funniest movie of the series, but it’s not as good as the others. Although its not the best out of the bunch, the action and entertainment make it worth seeing! Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is now playing in Cineplex cinemas across Canada.
Theatrical Release Date: May 22, 2008

“What do you know, the film billed as a return of Indiana Jones turns out instead to be a sequel to “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” - The Hollywood Reporter
I think I would second that! You could almost classify the latest Indy movie under sci-fi.

Decent movie. I rank it 3 out of the 4 films ahead of only the temple of doom.

Hey there… I think this movie succeeded in a lot of ways, but for me the elephant in the room is the story element. I don’t want to spoil it for anybody, so I won’t give it away, but I thought that it was a little out of the realm of Indy’s world. Maybe I’m old fashioned. I thought focusing on the Biblical aspects (Arc of the Covenant, Holy Grail) worked better than anything not focusing on those elements.
That said… I enjoyed Indy IV. There’s a lot to like. Unfortunately, it falls in third place above Temple of Doom (4), and behind Raiders (1) and Last Crusade (2)…
What did anybody else thing?

Thanks Trench and Bryan. I agree with both of you! It was better than the Temple of Doom but behind Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
To add to my comment from yesterday, the plot could be something found in the X-Files!
Like you said Bryan, should have kept to the mystical religious artifacts.

Hmm… didn’t quite like the movie. Thought that Ford’s presence slowed down the pace of the entire movie. After awhile, it felt painful to watch.

I agree with what most of the comments have already said: I rank it #3, with Raiders #1 and Last Crusade #2. Fun to watch but more of a “home renter” rather than a “drive to the theatre, look for parking, stand in line, etc.” movie.
