Summit Entertainment has announced today that it has purchased the movie rights to WildStorm/DC Comic’s Red. Red’s action-packed script will be written by the Hoeber brothers (Erich and Jon) and will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

According to Summit Entertainment’s website, the company’s President of Production, Erik Feig, stated, “We love this idea, we love the Hoebers, and we love Lorenzo di Bonaventura - who has the knack, along with Mark Vahradian, of finding great source material and turning it into homerun movie franchises. We are also thrilled and honored that WildStorm/DC Comics has picked Summit as the first studio outside their corporate parent with which to make a movie.”

Red is the story of Frank Moss, a retired black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a peaceful life until he discovers that he’s being followed by an assassin. With his cover blown and his love interest, Sarah, in danger, he must bring his team back together to find out who’s his follower.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is currently working on G.I. Joe and Transformers 2. As Red is only in its early development stages, we will not hear more news about the film for a little while, but we will keep you posted!
