Rating: Popcorn

Maxwell Smart is an analyst for Control, the U.S. spy agency. When the Control headquarters are destroyed and identities of agents are revealed, the Chef as no choice but to promote Maxwell to agent. Maxwell Smart is paired up with Agent 99 to hunt down KAOS, the crime syndicate who has a plot for world domination. Maxwell and Agent 99 must thwart KAOS’s plans before it’s too late, but there’s one thing we haven’t mentioned yet…Maxwell Smart doesn’t have any field experience and is armed with only a few spy gadgets.

Get Smart stars Steve Carell (Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who, Dan In Real Life), Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada, The Princess Diaries), Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (Gridiron Gang, The Scorpion King), Alan Arkin (America’s Sweethearts, Rendition), Kenneth Davitian (Meet the Spartans, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan), Terrence Stamp (Elektra, Wanted), and David Koechner (Balls of Fury, Semi-Pro).

Get Smart is a hilarious movie that is adapted from the 70’s sitcom with the same title. Steve Carell is great at making the audience laugh with his smart remarks as Maxwell Smart. Kenneth Davitian (Shtarker) was funny because of his accent and the words he had to say, especially when Maxwell Smart meets Siegfried and Shtarker at KAOS’s headquarters. I wasn’t too impressed with David Koechner (Larabee), Nate Torrence (Lloyd) and Terry Crews’ (Agent 91) not-so-smart performances. It was like if they reviewed the script a couple minutes before shooting the parts.

Throughout Get Smart, there are quite a few references to the original TV show, including the shoe phone and the car. The one scene that brings back memories of the original show is when Maxwell Smart walks through some beads, causing them all to fall to the floor. With the lighting effect, it actually looks like vintage footage. A similar scene actually occurred in the original Get Smart.

One thing that I’m disappoint with is the fact that the trailers show Maxwell stuck in the telephone booth, but in the movie it never happens. Although it could be improved, Get Smart is a great comedy that will have you laughing throughout the whole movie. I would highly recommend seeing Get Smart over Mike Myer’s The Love Guru as it will be outsmarted.

  3. It was ok but the humor could have been much better. Why do so many movies resort to toilet humor???

  4. Get Smart looks okay overall, though Steve Carell seems to be veering more and more toward slapstick-style humor
