Raised by gurus in India, Guru Pitka, a.k.a. the “Love Guru”, returns to America to chase after fortune and fame. His dream is to be the #1 guru in the world and to be a guest on Oprah. The “Love Guru” flies to Toronto, Canada as he is given a $2 million offer to repair the failed marriage of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ biggest star, Darren Roanoke, before the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. Darren’s wife is currently seeing L.A. Kings goalie, Jacques “Le Coq” Grande (pronounced with a Spanish accent), a cocky French-Canadian from Quebec. The “Love Guru” brings Darren through a process called D.R.A.M.A. (Distraction, Regression, Adjustment, Maturation, Action) that he believes will heal the broken relationship. Will this D.R.A.M.A. be enough not only to bring Darren and his wife back together, but to bring the Stanley Cup back to Toronto?
The Love Guru stars Mike Myers (Austin Powers, Shrek), Jessica Alba (The Eye, Awake) , Romany Malco (Baby Mama, Blades of Glory), Verne Troyer (Austin Powers, Postal), Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog, Step Up 2 the Streets), and Meagan Good (Stomp the Yard, One Missed Call). The film is co-written and co-produced by Mike Myers.
Like Roger Ebert says, “Myers has made some funny movies, but this film could have been written on toilet walls by callow adolescents.” Just like the walls in nasty truck stop restrooms, The Love Guru is filled with filthy vulgarity. Each word spoken is always twisted to mean something else, mostly in a sexual fashion. One example of these twisted meanings is the word intimacy. We know that intimacy means a close loving relationship with another person, but The Love Guru twists it to mean “into-me-I-see”. I will spare you and the children who might be reading this from the other immature words.
The Love Guru is something you can flush down the toilet and never think of it again, just like the last time you used the restroom. Mike Myers truly succeeds at being distractive and regressing in his maturity level, but that’s about it! The only award he or the rest of the crew will ever get for this film is the “dirty toilet paper” award…but that’s already been flushed down the toilet and forgotten about!
Theatrical Release Date: June 20, 2008
