As promised, here is some more coverage of the Twilight roundtables at Comic-Con ‘08, this time with Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) and Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria). Again, a special thanks goes out to Kari Lane for reporting for us from Comic-Con ‘08 and to Brian Truitt for the transcripts of the Q&A sessions.
Do you have any idea what’s gonna happen an hour from now?
Rachelle Lefevre (L): We were told a football field of 6,000 people.
Excited or nervous?
Robert Pattinson (P): I don’t know.
Edward’s voice:
P: I tried to speak slowly, and he’s from Chicago as well but I thought he’d have kind of an old-fashioned American accent. Maybe a couple of other things. I just tried to make it sound as smooth as I possibly could because it’s constantly emphasizing his elegant speech patterns. I hope it sounds like that.
What was your favorite action scene?
P: There’s a big fight they’re playing in the scene today where I get my head hit into a wall - it’s supposed to be super hard and the pillar starts falling down and stuff. It’s quite cool when someone can hit you as hard as they can into a wall, the whole thing falls down and it just doesn’t hurt at all. That was quite fun, but that’s not really a stunt though. It’s just getting hit.
L: Cam, Edi and I got to do this thing called “Magic Carpet” - you can imagine a 30-foot piece of plexiglass and you walk on it while it’s being pulled at 15, 20 mph by a wench. So the ground underneath you is literally moving at top speed and you’re walking in slow motion. They didn’t want to do CGI for us to be looking like we moved inhumanly - they wanted to try and get the effect. We had a full day of learning literally how to walk: First you start on your knees, then you stand a little more with a rope, and then you let go and learn how to walk all over again on this thing. It looks like you’re walking at 30 mph when all you’re doing is taking single steps.
Has Pattinson seen any of the “sparkle” look yet?
P: I’m really worried about that. I’m not worried about it, but it’s the big reveal. There’s just one scene where it comes out.
How does it feel for Pattinson to move from one cult franchise (Harry Potter) to a leading man in another?
P: On the first day, there was no one and on the last day there were like 70 people waiting outside the set. They just all found out where it was. It was really strange. We were shooting stuff in the desert in the summer in California, literally in the middle of the desert, and there were six Twilight fans.
L: There were pictures on the Internet of the vans we were traveling in, like taken through car windshields. I saw one and it was like, “Twilight cast in van.” and you realize someone was driving behind you.

Twilight Party
I hadn’t actually thought about Edward’s sparkle scene in the movie until now. Hopefully it will be magical enough to live up to the images we have imagined in the meadow that day.
