In a large city, where the busy streets flow with traffic, business is as usual until…a sudden epidemic infects not only the city, but the world. People’s eyes are covered by an instant blindness. Those first infected have been quarantined by the authorities as chaos begins to hit the streets. Criminals begin to take advantage of the weak by stealing food rations and committing horrific acts. There seems to be no end to this chaos.
However, there is one person that might be able to help the afflicted: a woman who hasn’t been infected by the disease. This woman goes with her infected husband to the hospital where he’s been quarantined. While keeping her sight a secret, she attempts to lead a group of seven blind people through the city to their survival. With the chaos going on, their lives are put in danger.
Filmed in Toronto, Ontario and Sao Paolo, Brazil, Alliance Films and Miramax Films will be releasing Blindness, a dramatic thriller, this September. The film stars Canadian Don McKellar (Last Night, Childstar), Julianne Moore (Magnolia, The Hours), Mark Ruffalo (Zodiac, Collateral) and Danny Glover (The Color Purple, Lethal Weapon).

After watching the trailer for this film, it made me think of the movie CHILDREN OF MEN (which I wasn’t too crazy about). But I like the cast, and am glad to see that Gael Garcia Bernal will be in this one. Of course, I’ll hold off on judging the film until I’ve actually seen it…

I am looking forward to this because it is a story written by a great author, José Saramago.
