Mama Mia!

Love Universal Pictures’ latest smash hit movie musical? Wish you knew all the words to sing along to the ABBA tunes that power this blockbuster hit?

Universal Pictures plans to boost its Labor Day weekend box office numbers with a re-release of Mama Mia!, but this time the Mama Mia! Sing-Along Edition. Audiences in select theaters will have the chance to participate by singing along to the various ABBA hits with subtitles displaying the lyrics to the songs.

Currently, Mama Mia! has grossed $320 million worldwide and $117 million domestically, almost beating Hairspray’s $119 million and becoming one of the top-grossing musicals ever.

I’m so excited about the singalong Mama Mia!!! I can’t wait! How do we find out which select theaters, I live in Charlotte! Thanks! What a wonderful idea!

I have confirmed with Universal Pictures Canada that it will be open on Aug. 29th in major Canadian markets and some smaller markets. It will be playing on 2 screens in Toronto, ON.

I’m not sure about American theaters. It’s best to check with your local cinema or their website.

  3. I believe it’s playing in most major US cities. Charlotte is a strong possibility. I’ve seen news reports all over the U.S. announcing the sing a long version. Should be a blast as all those who want to sing actually flock to the theaters to sing along this time. Hopefully, EVERYONE will be singing along loudly over Pierce Brosnan.

    Cheers!

Where will Mama Mia Sing-Along be playing in Northern Calif.???

  5. Jean Brunet

I’m not sure where you live in northern California, but I found two cinemas in San Francisco that will be playing the movie. The two cinemas are Century San Francisco Centre 9 and Century Northgate 15. It’s best to check on Fandango.com for local listings.

For local listings, please go to http://www.fandango.com. Type in your zip code or city/state and you will see if it is playing in your area. The sing-along addition will not be playing in every theater. It will be playing in select theaters across Canada and the U.S., mostly in the big markets.

I saw this movie about a month ago. I felt like I wanted to see it again. Now, I have an excuse to spend this extra money.

    Hi Janet,

It will not be playing at McCook, NE Cinema 3 this week. Here is the link to Cinema and what they will be showing this week: http://www.fridleytheatres.com/mccook.html

I checked for Lincoln and Omaha, which I know are far from you, but it will not be playing there either.

Three of us girlfriends went yesterday in Cincinnati. Had a blast. Took props…tossed play money (you know which song)…silk rose petals for I Do, I Do…feather boas…SOS pads…bubbles for I Have a Dream…pictures of our daughers for Slipping Through my Fingers…hankies for Chiquitita…a whole bunch of stuff…and of course…squirt guns for the end! We had a blast and the rest of the women in the theater were envious. It’s a whole new interactive event for the “Mama at the Matinee” set! (Our teenagers were in school, otherwise they would have been mortified.)

Sounds like you had tons of fun and I’m glad you enjoyed!

I have heard that there are special moves for the audience to do during the film, when watching a sing-along version, and things to say. Like “hello daddy” when any of the (alledged) fathers appears on screen and singing “I do, I do, I do, I do, I do” whenever the marriage is mentioned etc.

Does anyone have the whole list? I would soooo appreciate to have it, since I will be hosting a sing-along screening soon.

I saw the Sing-a-long at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago. Where can I buy this version?

The film will not be available for home entertainment (DVD or BD) for a few more months. I will keep you posted.
