Cineplex Entertainment Opens First LEED® Candidate Theatre
BRANTFORD, ONTARIO–(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2008) - Cineplex Entertainment (TSX:CGX.UN) is pleased to announce that the doors to its new Galaxy Cinemas Brantford are scheduled to open on Friday November 7, 2008 at 12:30 p.m.
The new eight-screen, 31,000 square foot Galaxy Cinemas Brantford cost more than $5 million to build and has created a variety of new job opportunities in Brantford. The seven-month building process created over 80 new construction jobs and will offer more than 50 permanent and part-time jobs within the theatre.

The design of the new theatre uses energy efficient equipment to reduce electricity, water and gas consumption as well as environmentally responsible products that have a positive impact on the environment and community. Some of the features include: a reflective white roof that reduces heat levels and lowers air conditioning needs and waterless urinals that will conserve thousands of litres of water per year. The building was constructed with a significant amount of both regionally sourced and recycled materials to reduce the environmental impact resulting from transportation. An extensive recycling program was implemented during the construction process to divert at least 75% of waste materials from the landfill. Bicycle racks were also installed to encourage employees to ride their bicycles to work.
LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building rating system used by the Canadian Green Building Council to help new and existing buildings become more environmentally friendly. This is the first LEED® Candidate theatre built in Canada by Cineplex Entertainment.

The new Galaxy Cinemas Brantford will feature all stadium rocker seating (each seat row will be 18″ higher than the previous row) with ample legroom; wall-to-wall, giant, curved screens; and Digital Surround Sound. The concessions will include traditional movie fare such as popcorn, candy and soft drinks in addition to Pizza Pizza, Outtakes and Yogen Fruz with a wide selection of low-fat and no-fat frozen yogurts and premium ice cream. A Zero Gravity family entertainment centre will offer a number of interactive video games and activities and is accessible without the purchase of a movie ticket.
