It’s midway through the weekend right now and estimates are showing that Disney’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year will open at the box office in the #1 spot with over $40 million in revenue. Friday’s ticket sales amounted to $16.9 million.
Saw V also opened this weekend, but the Lionsgate horror flick will not be able to continue its 4-year streak of opening in the #1 spot nor will it be the most profitable film of the franchise. Saw II grossed $87 million domestically over its first weekend while the new installment of the franchise is expected to finish in second place with an estimated $30.1 million. Saw V picked up $14 million in sales during its first day.
Stay tuned as we’ll be providing you with the final box office estimates, including the top 5 movies of the weekend, tomorrow evening.
