Disney’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year tops this weekend’s box office with $42 million during its debut, toping Lionsgate/Maple Pictures’ Saw V, which came in second place with $30.5 million. HSM3’s success adds to the studio’s overall box office accomplishments this fall, with Beverly Hills Chihuahua already bringing in $78.1 million in revenue. The third new release of the weekend, Pride and Glory, came in fifth with only $6.3 million.
Next week will feature the release of Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks’ Zack and Miri Make a Porno, horror/thriller flick The Haunting of Molly Hartley, the Canadian release of What Just Happened?, and the expansions of Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla and Angelina Jolie’s Changeling. Will we see a new box office leader next week, or will High School Musical 3: Senior Year keep its crown? We’ll just have to wait and see!
