With no new major releases hitting theatres this weekend except for the new 007 movie, Quantum of Solace, the box office numbers were top-heavy. The new James Bond film starring Daniel Craig took over the number one spot as it generated $70.4 million in its North American debut. Coming in second place was last weekend’s top film, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which picked up $36.1 million in its second weekend.

This coming Friday will mark the release of Walt Disney’s Bolt and Summit Entertainment’s Twilight, a teen vampire romantic-thriller targeting a young female audience. With Twilight advance ticket sales consuming 51% of Fandango.com’s revenue, could the film beat out Bond in a fight for the top spot this coming weekend? If so, how much can its fan base bring into the box office?
